Role

The Assistant Controller will support the Controller and CFO by managing accounting, auditing, and budgeting, ensuring compliance with regulations, and preparing financial reports. Additionally, they will assist with payroll and other financial tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Controller and CFO in the day-to-day accounting functions, stock-based compensation, equity plan administration, lease accounting, payroll, fixed assets, month-end and quarter close, and financial statement preparation

Oversee month, quarter, and year-end close processes to meet management deadlines

Lead process improvement initiatives, streamline procedures, and enhance efficiency within the finance function

Review and analyze financial statements for discrepancies and variances, collaborating with finance and other departments to confirm the accuracy and completeness of reporting

Active involvement and support in operational accounting processes

Involvement in all phases of financial SEC reporting processes; drafting of financial and accounting sections of the SEC forms 10-K, 10-Q, S-3’s, S-8’s, 8-K’s and proxy

Research and document complex GAAP and SEC reporting requirements

Support quarterly reviews and annual audit; support internal and external audit and establish timelines

Assist in Sarbanes-Oxley 404 documentation and support Sarbanes-Oxley 404 internal testing

Account analysis

Proper and timely recording of financial transactions in the general ledger in accordance with GAAP

Review of monthly internal financial statements

Review of journal entries for accruals/reserves, preparation and review of supporting documents, analysis of P&L and Balance Sheet accounts, review of GL account reconciliations for accuracy and reasonableness

Various administrative duties in support of the Finance team

Ad-hoc special projects

Professional Experience/Qualifications

5+ years of accounting experience

Strong understanding of GAAP and SOX requirements

Experience working for a Public Company

Proficiency in accounting software (eg. NetSuite, SAP) and Microsoft Excel

Experience supporting month-end close, preparing and analyzing financial statements, and variance reporting.

Conceptual thinker able to develop financial and analytical models that support business decisions.

Highly organized, possessing high standards of accuracy and precision.

Ability to perform well within restrictive deadlines.

Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred, not required

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

MS, MBA, and / or CPA or CFA is preferred, not required
